Back in 2008, I added a couple of posts about the Dingler and Sticher cemetery in Douglas County, Georgia. (March 22, 2008 post and May 31, 2008 post) after receiving information from Sandy Whittington, the Chairman of the Douglas County Cemetery Preservation Committee. Sandy emailed me again recently to let me know that the cemetery received its annual cleaning last month.

Every Thursday, they work with an inmate crew and deputy to clean the fifty-seven abandoned cemeteries in the county. This ensures that every cemetery gets an annual cleaning. Sandy said that the cemetery was grown up some, but that it and the other cemeteries don’t get too overgrown thanks to the annual cleaning schedule.

If you’re in the area and want to visit the cemetery, check out the posts I referenced above for additional information. I’d like to give Sandy and her organization a big shout out.  You can find out more about the Douglas County Cemetery Preservation Committee at their website.
